The German luxury brand's i Vision Dynamics concept, introduced Tuesday at the Frankfurt auto show, previews an upcoming third model for the i low-emissions subbrand that will be a rival to the Tesla Model 3.

The i Vision Dynamic has a range of 600 kilometers (373 miles) so it's clearly targeting the Tesla Model S market.

Although the BMW i Vision Dynamics is, in a sense, the beginning, it is by no means a solitaire.

The BMW iVision Dynamics is expected to go into production soon and will slot between the i3 hatchback and the i8 sports auto.

"And now the BMW i Vision Dynamics is combining electric mobility with the core values of BMW: dynamism and elegance".

Naturally this model would slot into BMW's EV range between the existing i3 hatch and i8 supercar, but with four doors and a boot it should appeal to a wider, environmentally conscious audience.

If this is what the future of BMW's electric i lineup looks like, count me in.

This is combined with freestanding LED lights to give the BMW an imposing look. It sports a large kidney grille at the front, 22-inch wheels and hockey stick-shaped headlights.

The concept is part of BMW's overall electrification plan, which sees the automaker fielding 25 electrified models by 2025, with 12 of those being purely electric vehicles.

"We have more electrified vehicles on the road than any established competitor and are committed to expanding our activities in the field of electric mobility", commented Harald Krüger, Chairman of the BMW Board of Management. Electric mobility will therefore become a new standard, not a single case in a fleet of combustion engines.
