Apple says its new watch has cellular connectivity problems

The Apple Watch Series 3 is the first Apple Watch to feature LTE and that was a big selling point for Apple. In fact, I believe Apple will double its sales of Apple Watches in the next 18 months thanks to this new cellular feature. Apple said it is "investigating a fix for a future software release". With a cellular or Wi-Fi connection, it can make/take calls, activate Siri, send texts and connect to the internet without pairing with an iPhone, as previous variants were required to.

Apple said in an email to a product reviewer at the Verge that in certain instances when the Series 3 fails to fully connect with unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks, "it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular". "That's why I can't recommend the cellular Apple Watch Series 3 until the connectivity is more reliable". Series 3 should feature built-in cellular connection. Users have reported problems sending messages from Miscosoft Outlook or Exchange accounts linked to iOS 11's Mail app. Users have been receiving "Cannot Send Mail" errors, and Apple has confirmed to 9to5Mac that it is "working closely with Microsoft" to fix the problem. In the review, Lauren says that if she walked away from her iPhone, the Apple Watch would take several minutes to switch to LTE.

Why is Apple Watch Series 3 connecting to unknown WiFi networks? While Samsung did have a smartwatch with a modem in it, I could never get it to work well and this model never caught on. I would much prefer this watch if it were black. There's also a new dual-core CPU that is 70 percent faster than Series 2, and Apple wisely uses the screen itself for the radio's antenna so the device avoid excess bulk.

However, according to reviewers at The Verge and the Wall Street Journal, the new Watch seems to have a problem with LTE connectivity. And she wasn't too impressed with the new watch's battery life, but found the device particularly useful for its fitness tracking functions.

With no hint of when the fix will be issued, this is something that's surely going to be a concern for anyone who has placed an order and is now waiting for their new Apple Watch to arrive.
