At least one person was shot during a shooting at Mattoon High School in east central IL on Wednesday. She also said there have been concerns about bullying at the school raised in the past.

"He fired 5-6 more rounds into the ceiling as she took him down", she wrote.

McQueen's mother, Barbara McQueen, told CBS Morning News that her daughter "just took action" because she was anxious the student would kill somebody. "She's the hero, too".

At Crave Coffee & Cafe on Dewitt Avenue, McQueen has a free lunch waiting for her whenever she chooses to accept. Earlier Wednesday, students were asked to be prepared to have their bags searched and IDs checked upon arrival Wednesday morning.

Students returned to Mattoon High School just one day after a school shooting. McQueen "is actually a really awesome teacher. Because when she saw the gun, it was just like 'oh my goodness, we're not going to have another Sandy Hook!' She just reacted instinctively", Barbara said.

Reference the threats that were made to Whiteland HS yesterday on social media.

"She's very humble", Hines said.

"I never would have thought anything like this would have happened here", Arthur added. He also wounded another student by shooting them twice before being subdued by McQueen. "If that teacher had not responded as quickly as they had, I think the situation would have been a lot different". All other Mattoon school buildings will have regularly scheduled hours. The boy's parents agreed to the evaluations. "The video ends with students and staff shouting, 'Go Green Wave!" - a reference to Mattoon's athletic nickname.

"Some people dropped to the ground and I flinched, it scared me so much", sophomore Brenten Douglas said.

An officer was on campus when the shooting occurred.

Authorities on Thursday reveled the identity of a courageous teacher who stopped a student-gunman after he opened fire inside his IL high school. "It was so scary". The video begins with Taylorville High School Principal Matt Hutchison, clad in the bright green of Mattoon, saying, "Hello Mattoon High School".

Branson says the school had recently participated in active shooter training, but says confrontation is considered "a strategy of last resort".

"He's been in some of my classes; he's a very nice guy", junior Matthew Ashby said of the victim.

Mattoon school officials say the high school will be open on Thursday morning to provide students access to counselors, clergy, and police officers for "comfort and counseling".
