Yuvraj, Ashwin, Jadeja left out of limited-overs squad

BCCI announces ODI squad for Sri Lanka Tour: All rounder Yuvraj Singh and batsman Rishabh Pant have been dropped from the team.

India, who have already pocketed the Test series 2-1 and are dominating the final Test, hold an impressive record against Sri Lanka in ODIs.

The selectors chose to rest four frontline bowlers - Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. Dinesh Karthik, who earned a recall to the side during the Champions Trophy, and scored 52 runs in two matches during the West Indies tour that followed, was dropped.

Talented Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey, who recently led the India A squad to a tri-series win in South Africa, made a comeback to the team. While the ODI series conclude on September 3, the one-off T2) will be played on September 6.

Left-arm spinner Axar returns to the Indian team for the first time since October 2016, when he played the last of his 30 ODIs.

An uncapped Shardul Thakur has also been drafted into the side, who will hope to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series.

The squad: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (vice captain), Lokesh Rahul, Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur.

The five-match ODI series will start at Dambulla on 20 August.
