Stalking case accused sent to police custody

On Wednesday, the police made a decision to press attempt to kidnap charge against Vikas Barala and another person, who had allegedly stalked and tried to abduct the daughter of an IAS officer, officials had said. Vikas along with his friend were arrested when they appeared in Chandigarh Sector 26 Police Station after being summoned in the case on Thursday. After this decision, both the accused will be kept under judicial custody till August 25.

Police said interrogation of the accused provided vital information, besides evidence from CCTV.

The video footage adds substance to the allegations made by the girl claiming the both Vikas and Ashish were intoxicated the night they chased and tried to abduct her.

Chandigarh police produced the accused at the Sector 43 district court here and sought their custody, as it was required to reconstruct the crime scene and verify facts.

Refuting all the charges leveled by the victim, Barala said that he did not chase Varnika's auto.

Meanwhile, after CM Khattar, his cabinet colleagues including outspoken minister Anil Vij have now come out in defence of the state BJP President Subhash Barala whose son Vikas is current behind bars.

After the incident, Kundu filed a complaint and the duo was booked on charges of stalking and attempt to kidnap.

Taking out the "Bekhauf Azadi March" (freedom without fear march), the young and old said they were reclaiming the streets from "stalkers and elitist goons here". Both have admitted to have consumed beer that night when the incident took.

On August 5, Vikas Barala was arrested along with Ashish on the charges of stalking and harassing an IAS officer's daughter Varnika Kundu in Chandigarh.
