"Sanchez will definitely not be available for Leicester", said the Arsenal boss.

You're never too sure what you're going to get with Arsenal but they looked good against Chelsea in the Community Shield, despite being without Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Wenger eventually signed a new two-year contract extension following an end to a campaign which finished on a high with victory in the FA Cup final after failing to secure Champions League qualification for the first time under his long tenure.

The news is likely to interest Alexis Sanchez, who is seeking around £300,000-a-week to consider signing a new deal.

The Chile global suffered an abdominal injury in training and could miss two weeks, while defender Laurent Koscielny is suspended for the visit of the Foxes.

Alexis Sanchez returned to Arsenal training on Friday as manager Arsene Wenger maintains his stance that the forward will not be sold.

Previously, Sanchez was reported to have demanded the same amount in weekly wages and now that the Gunners have come through with the amount, it remains to be seen if he stays back at the Emirates. Personally I think he is a hugely talented player, he's on the way up and he will continue to move up because the potential is there.

Wenger is keen for his team to make a strong start and banish memories of last season, when they lost their opening game 4-3 to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.

"I have plenty of uncertainties about the players who didn't play against Chelsea", he said. It can happen in pre-season and anyway, I don't think I would have included him on Friday night. "For example Ramsey, Ozil, Mertesacker, and, of course, Koscielny is suspended".

He added: "I'm convinced in 10 or 15 years it will not necessarily be a football specialist who is a manager of a club".
