Red Sox Place Dustin Pedroia On 10-Day Disabled List

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia returned to the 10-day disabled list with left knee inflammation after just one game and four at-bats.

In 86 games this season, Pedroia hit.303 with a.784 OPS, six homers and 17 doubles.

It's been a rough year for Pedroia, who's been repeatedly sidelined with a knee contusion, wrist sprain and rib issues since the start of the season.

"Nothing happened in that game", Pedroia said, via the Globe.

"There's nothing we have right now that suggests he won't be back to us", Farrell said on Saturday.

"I went through a full workday and felt fine and felt like I could do it", he said. The teams meet nine more times in the next 23 days. In a corresponding move, left-hander Robby Scott was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket and will assume Pedroia's spot on the roster.

Pedroia didn't play in Boston's 5-4 loss to the New York Yankees on Friday night, the first of a pivotal three-game series.

Pedroia spent time on the disabled list with knee troubles, but returned to action Tuesday in Tampa.

"We've got to continue to get some work done to get back to where he feels he's able to endure day to day, and we're not quite there yet", Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "He's shown that there's been a little bit of a pushback in terms of the reaction to it".
