RB Leipzig Gearing Up For More Naby Keita Interest

Keita was Liverpool's priority midfield target this summer but the club postponed their attempts to sign the Guinea worldwide after Leipzig's refusal to negotiate.

RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has admitted that the club face an uphill battle in to retain the services of highly-rated midfielder and noted Liverpool target Naby Keita beyond the summer of 2018.

The problem for RB Leipzig is that Keita has a release clause in his contract that becomes active next summer, worth 50 million euros.

Rangnick: "Next season Naby theoretically has the option to go".

"I presume that he'll play a great season again, above all in the Champions League".

"And then there will be big clubs that are interested in him".

However, while Leipzig's stance remains to keep Keita for at least one more campaign, if Philippe Coutinho is to leave for Barcelona, then Liverpool could make one more attempt to convince the Bundesliga runners up into selling now.

"So probably it will be hard to hold on to him".

Despite Liverpool's ongoing interest, it would appear that he will stay put in Germany this summer.

Rangnick added: "I'm now assuming we can not cancel it".

Next summer, though, a clause in the Guinea international's contract means he can be signed for just £45m.

"(But) it's important that Naby is still playing with us this season".

Liverpool have signed Dominic Solanke, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson so far this summer but Klopp is keen for new arrivals.
