Paul Manafort searching for a new lawyer amid Mueller probe

Manafort has primarily been represented by Reginald Brown of WilmerHale - the same DC law firm that employed Mueller until he was appointed special counsel in May to investigate allegations that Trump colluded with Russian Federation to win the election.

One day after it became known the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a pre-dawn raid of Manafort's Virginia home last month, Politico reported Thursday that Manafort - who worked for Trump's presidential campaign from March to August 2016 - is retaining the services of a boutique law firm in Washington, D.C. I thought it was a very - you know, they do that very seldom, so I was surprised to see it.

In his first public comments since the raid was made public this week by The Washington Post, Trump called Manafort "a very decent man" but said he hadn't spoken to him for a long time. "To wake him up, perhaps his family was there, I think that's pretty tough stuff".

Earlier this week The Washington Post reported that FBI agents had raided Manafort's home in Alexandria, Virginia, in connection with the ongoing Russian Federation investigation.

The FBI raid on Manafort's home in late July reportedly focused on financial records, and Bloomberg also reported that global banks he frequented have been subpoenaed.

Also Thursday, Manafort dropped a law firm that was representing him in the investigation led by Mueller, switching to one with expertise in worldwide tax cases. "I'm very proud of what we've done at the border", Mr Trump said, likely referring to Mr Sessions' crackdown on illegal immigration.

Manafort served as Trump's campaign chairman from March 2016 until August 2016.

Trump said that the raid, which he considered a "tough" move, was a "very strong signal", but did not elaborate on what he believes it indicates. "I mean, I want them to get on with the task".

Trump said Manafort is "like a lot of other people, probably makes consultant fees from all over the place, who knows, I don't know".
