So far, officials said the fire has burned 81,826 acres and destroyed 131 structures.

August 05-Gunfire has been identified as the cause of the Detwiler Fire, which burned 81,826 acres and destroyed 131 structures in Mariposa County.

The blaze was caused by a "discharge of firearms" on public land. A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the responsible person. The fire is seven percent contained.

The exact circumstances remain under investigation, Cal Fire stated in a news release Friday.

It was not clear if the shooting was legal or illegal.

At least 16 wildfires were burning across the state as of Saturday, according to Cal Fire.
