Former Manchester City and Everton defender Sylvain Distin believes Pep Guardiola's transfer business could be a gamble as a number of new recruits have arrived without Premier League experience.

Manager Pep Guardiola chose to start Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero up front together and the Brazilian youngster had the ball in the net in the first half, but it was ruled out for handball and the striker was subsequently booked.

"Hopefully next season I will be here and we are not going to spend how we have this season".

"But what the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City can do, they can do that and good luck to them".

"Talking about attacking options - we know it in training of course because we have to face [Aguero] every day".

City is most pundits' favorites to win the league title, after finishing 15 points behind champion Chelsea last season.

"For us, we're up against top-class opposition that will have more possession than we do".

Guardiola's City have made some eye-catching additions this summer, particularly in the forward ranks, and the club are many pundits' favourites for the league title thanks to their strength in depth.

The new players that come in they have to adjust to the way we want to play.

David Silva's assist for Aguero's goal helped the Spaniard receive man of the match honours.

"We finished the contracts of five or six players and in the last six or seven years Manchester City didn't buy full-backs, so we had to buy full-backs".

"We needed the win and it was good to get off to a good start, so we are happy", he said.

Coverage of Manchester City facing off against Brighton will be shown live on BT Sport 1 (Sky Channel 413, Virgin 530, BT 408).

"The first game of a season is always complicated", he said. Premier League debutant Ederson, the world's most expensive goalkeeper at £35 million, was under the spotlight his Chilean backup wilted under last season, though his new team's dominance meant this was not a match to fully test his mettle.
