Arsene Wenger's side scored twice in the last 10 minutes as Aaron Ramsey equalised before Olivier Giroud bagged the victor at the Emirates Stadium. "I love the man and the player", said Wenger.

"Giroud? He's fantastic", Wenger said of the France worldwide, who usually started on the bench last season and had been linked with a move away from The Emirates. "I know how important he is not only as a player but also in the group". In the end he made a decision to stay and it was one of the great days of the recent weeks for me.

Arsenal's new signing Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette took 94 seconds to make his mark with a header from Mohamed Elneny's curling cross to equal the record for the fastest opening goal in a Premier League season. "He did very well on the left when we moved him".

"We kept going and the spirit of the team was absolutely outstanding", Wenger said. "So overall I think he adapts slowly to the way we want to play and is a collective player and an intelligent player as well".

"Top quality game and you want PL to be best in the world and you have to produce games like that", Wenger told reporters.

But the French coach knows he has work to do on his defence after Friday's performance in which Arsenal were found wanting at two set pieces that resulted in Leicester goals.

To cap off a busy first half of the season, Welbeck tied things up after 45 minutes, scoring from close range.

He added: "We started really well and I thought we could stay in control".

"I feel as well that the goals we conceded, we can work together to get rid of that because one was a corner, one was a ball we lost in the build up and the third goal was on a corner again, so we conceded two goals on corners". Although Arsenal signed off in May by lifting the FA Cup, a fifth-place finish ensured the north London club failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in two decades.
