Android O would be the last major patch for the OnePlus 3/3T

OnePlus' track record with software support for its devices has been decent for some products, and very bad for others (remember the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X?).

So today the Chinese company's Head of Product, Oliver Z., has chose to answer a few questions on the matter.

While we are sure that the OnePlus 5 will get the Android O update without any delay, a recent post by the company has clarified regarding the support that will be offered to the yesteryear flagships - OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

In a Q&A on the company's community forums (via 9to5 Google) he wrote: "Android O is going to be the last Android version update we'll release for the OP3/3T". OnePlus has officially confirmed that Android O or Android 8 would be the last major OS update for last year's variant of OnePlus i.e. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.

In addition, Oliver also said that OnePlus will also end the Open Beta Program for the 3/3T after Android O update is released.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T are two praise-worthy smartphones by OnePlus.

As for the foreseeable future, OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3/3T will be updated to version 4.5 in the next month or two, though a security patch will arrive "soon". Otherwise, you'll have to wait a while for each official update to come in as the OnePlus 5 has gotten development priority.

In the meantime, that Open Beta Program will be the home to a "fast loop" of sorts when it comes to new features being placed on the 2015 phones.

While the OnePlus 3 is fairly old at this point (in terms of smartphone shelf-life at least), the OnePlus 3T is just nine months old and many buyers will be a little miffed at this news.
