2 arrested after auto hits officer at hospital

Police were dispatched just before 9 p.m.to the the scene near St. Paul St. and Prospect St.

A police officer was injured Wednesday night following a chase that ended with a police vehicle being struck, according to a spokesman for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

He went toward the suspect, but that person drove away, hitting the officer.

The Southport officer was working security at a hospital when he saw someone he believed was a robbery suspect. The officer, who works part-time at the hospital, fired at least one shot at the vehicle.

After the second officer was hit, another officer hit and disabled the suspect's truck. Both officers are expected to be OK.

The suspect was taken to the hospital after being tazed.

Indianapolis police spokesman Officer Jim Gillespie says the officer was trying to stop the vehicle when it struck him, causing leg and hip injuries.
