The Cubs have acquired Jose Quintana from the White Sox for a four-prospect package which includes top prospects Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease, both teams announced.

The 21-year-old Cease is 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 51 2/3 innings at Class-A South Bend this season.

The Cubs and White Sox have pulled off a blockbuster trade. Moncada, who was acquired as part of the Chris Sale trade a year ago, now ranks as the No. 1 prospect in baseball. The team watched the Cubs ride a base of elite young talent to a World Series past year, and now it's trying to emulate that with Moncada and Jimenez leading the way.

"All four players add talent and depth to our organization, which has been one of our very public goals over the past nine months, and their ages and development arc match nicely with some of the other young talent we have been fortunate to add in recent trades, the draft and worldwide signings", White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. Now he'll try to bring that to the North Side, where injuries and ineffectiveness have plagued the rotation. With high expectations for the Cubs this season, they're trying to get back on track now before it's too late. Quintana is under contract through 2020.

"It is always extremely hard to trade a person and player like Jose Quintana", White Sox general manager Rich Hahn said in a statement, "but hard as it was, this deal moves us closer to our goal of building a team capable of contending for multiple championships over an extended period of time".

After dominating the National League last season, the Cubs enter the second half this season at 43-45 and 5.5 games behind Milwaukee in the Central Division.
