Seattle Storm star Sue Bird announced that she is gay and is dating Seattle Reign and USWNT star soccer player Megan Rapinoe in an article from Mechelle Voepel of ESPNW.

These potential two statements have been swimming in the minds of the Seattle Storm guard's fans for almost a decade and now, according to the Seattle Times July 20, 2017 edition, they have become a reality.

Megan's my girlfriend... These aren't secrets to people who know me.

Whenever she does retire, Sue Bird will leave the WNBA likely with the league's all-time assist record, Olympic gold medals and a number of appearances in the All-Star Game.

But, Bird says, those close to her won't find the revalations surprising. I have to be true to that. This is just one among many career accomplishments, which include "two NCAA titles at UConn when the Huskies were establishing their dynasty in the early 2000s; two WNBA championships with the Storm; four Olympic gold medals with Team USA; three world championship golds; and four EuroLeague titles while competing in Russian Federation", according to ESPN. Once she figured it out, it became a "nonissue", she said.

The former Olympian also revealed she is in relationship with soccer star Megan Rapinoe. Rapinoe, a World Cup and Olympic gold medal victor with the US women's national team, has played for the NWSL's Seattle Reign since 2013, and she told ESPN that they "just sort of clicked" last fall.

"She doesn't shut anybody off when she speaks".

Speaking is something Bird is now ready to do - and it has nothing to do with Rapinoe.

"Megan feels really passionately about things", Bird says. "It's my journey." She had been "on the verge" of coming out publicly for some time, she added.
