Sania Mirza crashed out of the mixed doubles competition while Rohan Bopanna and his partner entered the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships here.

The 10th seeded Indo-Canadian pair went down 7-6, 4-6, 5-7 to the unseeded duo of Henri Kontinen of Finland and Heather Watson of Britain in a quarter-final clash that lasted for two hours.

The first set turned out to be one hard-fought, gritty affair with both teams unable to break each other.

Not to be outdone, Bopanna and Dabrowski broke back in the very next game.

The champions beat No 4 seeds Ivan Dodig and Sania Mirza 7-6, 6-4 on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals.

The unseeded duo - who'd never played together before their run to the title previous year - needed less than an hour and 30 minutes to complete the upset over the veteran team, 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Vesnina and Soares held two set points in the opening set, but saw their lead slip away as their opponents took the tiebreak.

He and Dabrowski recently won the French Open mixed doubles title.
