Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk confirmed Friday that 33-year-old John Bernecker died about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at an Atlanta hospital.

His girlfriend posted a message on Facebook regarding the accident, which read: "John deserves to be seen by every neorusurgeon and doctor there is until one of them sees the life we all know he has in him and bring him back to us... We are deeply saddened by this loss and our hearts and prayers are with John's family, friends and colleagues during this extremely hard time", AMC's statement read, while showrunner Scott Gimple also expressed his condolences.

A coroner says a stuntman for "The Walking Dead" has died from injuries suffered in a fall on the Georgia set of the hit television show.

"We are deeply saddened by this loss and our hearts and prayers are with John's family, friends and colleagues during this extremely hard time", AMC said Friday.

SAG-AFTRA, a labour union, has already launched an investigation of the safety on The Walking Dead set.

Bernecker's family will reportedly let John save lives as an organ donor.

His family has requested privacy for the time being, according to the statement. There's no word if representatives of "The Walking Dead" will appear as scheduled at the upcoming Comic-Con in San Diego.

Showrunner Scott Gimple said in a statement that the production team is "heartbroken".

"We are grateful for his contributions, and all of us send our condolences, love, and prayers to John's family and friends".

In full preparation for the season 8 filming of the series the Walking Dead is interrupted for several days following a serious accident that occurred in the studios installed in the State of Georgia.
