UNLV football picked for third place in preseason poll

Sophomore Logan Wilson was also named to the preseason all-conference team, as the Cowboys were picked to finish third in the Mountain Division.

This is the fifth season for the division format, which was created in 2013 when San Jose State and Utah State joined the conference. The two divisional winners will meet in the MW Championship Game on December 2, 2017 at the home stadium of the divisional champion with the highest College Football Playoff Committee ranking.

Bennett was named Second Team All-Mountain West by the league's media and coaches last season, and also landed on Phil Steele's All-MW second team after starting all 13 games at center. Colorado State received six first-place votes and 135 points for second place in the Mountain Division. The Aztecs are the first team in MW history to be selected as a unanimous divisional champion in back-to-back seasons. Boise State was picked for the fourth-straight time to win the division, receiving 161 points and 21 first-place votes. SDSU posted a 6-2 league record in 2016 to capture the West Division.

Colorado State center Jake Bennett and wide receiver Michael Gallup were each selected to the 2017 Preseason All-Mountain West Football Team on Tuesday morning, by a vote of Mountain West media members. Head Coach Rocky Long returns 14 starters, including 1,000-yard rusher and one of the nation's top returners in Rashaad Penny.

The predicted order of finish for the Mountain Division was Boise State, Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, New Mexico and Utah State.

UNLV received 105 points in the poll, which was voted on by the media.

Wyoming was picked to finish last in the Mountain Division past year and finished in a three-way tie for first place, representing the division in the conference championship via tiebreaker.

For the tenth consecutive season, the Boise State football team has been picked to win either their division or conference.
