Toy Story 4 Sets Josh Cooley As Solo Director

The project had no title, but Scanlon, who was on stage in the main exposition wing that housed upwards of 7,000 rapt fans, said it was a very personal story for as its based on him not knowing his father, who passed away when he was one year old.

Rounding out the Pixar presentation was some new footage from Coco and, more excitingly, our first glimpse at The Incredibles II. The first clip (a work in progress), showed Jack Jack as he wanders outdoors after his dad falls asleep. Incredible, Holly Hunter, who is Elastigirl, Sarah Vowel, who plays their daughter Violet, Huck Milner, who replaces Spencer Fox as Dash, and - getting a whole lot of cheers - Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Frozone.

Up and coming filmmaker, Josh Cooley, has officially been set as the solo director for 2019's Toy Story 4.

They then screened a mockumentary short with real-life fashion icons and personalities talking about the influence of Incredibles character Edna Mode, and then they actually talked about The Incredibles 2.

In other Pixar news, Lasseter announced an as-yet untitled new project to be directed by Monsters University's Dan Scanlon. Toy Story 4 opens June 21, 2019. One day, he heard a recording of his late father saying two words: "hi, bye". With the working title of Space (as in "this Space to be filled with a title when we think of one"), the film teased two supersonic jets racing through the sky before being soundly thrashed by a high speed craft flies in from the upper atmosphere.

Unkrich, Anderson and co-director and writer Adrian Molina were on hand to preview the clip.

The grand finale of this preview included more than 160 performers who descended on Hall D23, including the Grammy-winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, the Grammy-winning Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band, and the Ballet Folklorico de Los Angeles.
