Love the '80s? Then the first look at Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One" will stoke your nostalgia. And the first official image from the flick reveals a ton of easter eggs if you know where to look.

The picture depicts Wade aka Parzival (played by Tye Sheridan of X-Men: Apocalypse) in his hideout on the Stacks as he enjoys some time in the OASIS, the virtual world created by James Halliday. Whoever solves the series of pop-culture quests will win the OASIS and its parent company Gregarious Games.

A Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures production, the Ready Player One movie is being directed by Spielberg, who is also producing alongside Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner, Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger. And so the race against the clock begins as the game could become locked away from its player or possibly made too expensive to play if acquired by the corporate IOI organization.

The film is an exciting prospect: the original novel by Ernest Cline is filled with references to movies and video games, and its Hunger Games meets The Matrix plot is a flawless mash-up of some more popular concepts in sci-fi. "And somehow it's happened". You can spot a Garbage Pail Kids sticker and "Star Trek" and "Masters of the Universe" lunchboxes. On the left, there's a cover of Wired featuring Rylance as Halliday.

Ready Player One also stars Olivia Cooke as Art3mis, Lena Waithe as Aech, Deadpool's T.J. Miller as I-R0k, and Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento.

Many people contend that Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is necessary reading for fans of VR, AR, or other forms of immersive technology.
