Shahid, Alia win best actors at IIFA 2017

The role of a drug addict won Shahid Kapoor the much-deserved award of the night. the actor dedicated the award to his wife Mira Rajput.

The hosts for the ceremony were Saif Ali Khan and Johar, who had the audience in splits with their amusing one-liners and banter.

Tapsee Pannu took everyone by surprise with her fierce portrayal of Meenal Arora in Pink. Shakun Batra and Ayesha DeVitre won the award for the Best Story for Kapoor & Sons.

On Saturday, Bollywood's most prestigious IIFA Awards 2017 was held in which actor Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt won the best actor male and female for their film Udta Punjab.

Other nominees in the field included "Armaan Malik" for "Besabriyaan" of "M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, ' Arijit Singh for "Channa Mereya" of "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" and Diljit Dosanjh for 'Ikk Kudi" of 'Udta Punjab'. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil music still lingers on and an award for it completely does justice. Alia Bhatt won the Best Actress award for the same film.

Among the singers, Kanika Kapoor's Da da dase and Tulsi Kumar Soch na sake shared the award in the female category, while Amit Mishra won it in the men's category.

In the Best Supporting Actor category, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher were honoured for Neerja and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story; Varun Dhawan was lauded for his comic timing in Dishoom; and Disha Patani was encouraged with an award for her debut movie M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. However, it was not all smooth-sailing for the duo as the audience booed at them several times during the show at the jam-packed MetLife stadium. He played the role of MS Dhoni's father in the film.

Sushant also performed at the awards ceremony with his Raabta co-star Kriti Sanon.

But the best was kept for the last as Salman Khan took to the stage for the finale performance and danced on "Radio" and "Main hoon hero".

Unlike previous editions, no worldwide stars were part of the IIFA celebrations this year.
