Service arrangements announced for Trooper Joel Davis

Davis was a born and raised in the North Country.

Davis is survived by his wife and three children. Calling hours are being held there from 4 8 p.m. today.

THERESA, N.Y. (AP) — Funeral arrangements are set for an upstate NY woman allegedly slain by her soldier husband, who's also accused of fatally shooting a state trooper. Nichole Walters was found dead on her home's driveway.

Justin Walters is a staff sergeant with the 10th Mountain Division based at nearby Fort Drum. She was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Davis was killed as he approached a residence in the town of Theresa after reports of shots being fired, New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach said in a statement. State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II reflected the public's grief over the death of Mr. Davis.

About 60 state police officers from Troop B in Ray Brook were expected to attend the funeral.

Cory Marselo, Indian River football coach, grew up with Trooper Davis and his brother, and wanted to make sure his players appreciated the man that Joel Davis was.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo sad in a statement, "The entire NY family grieves today".
