Just when you thought Runescape was about to sink into obscurity, Jagex announces another huge innovation to reinvigorate the community and lure in new players.

RuneScape has seen multiple revisions and updates, making the current game unrecognizable to someone who played it back when it was newer.

Jagex is bringing the long-running MMORPG RuneScape to mobile in both its modern and Old School forms.

"As a MMO player, you ideally want to play at any time of the day or night no matter where you are", Jagex senior product director Neil McClarty said.

Jagex, the developers behind Runescape have announced that the popular MMO title will be coming to mobile devices. This means that users will be able to play on both desktop and their phones or tablets with the same account without losing any progress.

Interestingly enough, the Runescape mobile ports will be fully cross compatible with their big brother PC counterparts, in addition, the titles will also be interoperable which translates to players being able to seamlessly login and off from either version Runescape on PC or Runescape mobile and quickly get back into the action. Old School RuneScape caters to those nostalgic fans, presenting the game as it was in its earlier days.

Probably the best part of this announcement is that the game supports cross-network play, meaning players can log out from their PC and load up the game on mobile to continue their adventure picking right up from where they left off. We believe in taking our games to wherever our players want them; recent player surveys showed an overwhelming 90% of active players and 64% of former players telling us of their very high intent-to-play on mobile.
