Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals

In 6 1/3 innings, the Pirates never solved this version of Lynn, and they couldn't get to anyone in the Cardinals' bullpen either.

Martinez is winless in his last four starts, and his last two outings have been among his worst of the year. Trevor Rosenthal pitched a scoreless eighth inning, but Brett Cecil was a disaster in the ninth inning when the Pirates scored two runs to register the come back win.

Jameson Taillon (5-3) lost for the first time in almost a month. Matt Carpenter followed with single to score Lynn and Tommy Pham doubled home Carpenter for the 4-0 lead off Pirates starter Jameson Taillon. The Pittsburgh hurler scattered 10 hits over 5.2 innings, struck out five and allowed just two runs.

Well, in a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates, there wasn't even a chance for that to be heard.

"I know when pitchers get hits off me, it (ticks) me off", Lynn said.

"We hung around", manager Clint Hurdle said.

Reliever Matt Bowman walked Adam Frazier with two outs to load the bases but Pirates All-Star second baseman Josh Harrison - mired in a slump - flied out to left to end the threat. The under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings and St. Louis are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.

Francisco Cervelli went 2 for 4 with a double for Pirates.

Cardinals rookie Magneuris Sierra, brought back from Triple-A on Saturday, had four hits, stole a base and scored a run. The Brewers now lead the Phillies, 9-6, in the bottom of the sixth. He has reached safely in nine straight games to start his big league career, the first Cardinals player to accomplish the feat.
