Malacañang on Duterte rape remark: The masses get him

"What I don't like are kids [being raped]", Mr. Duterte said at a tourism event in his Davao City hometown Friday night.

He said all offices tasked in handling Duterte's public engagements "sincerely apologized" and assured the public that there would be no repeat of such incident. "I, Rodrigo Duterte, will defend and protect the Filipino nation". I will go to jail for you.

The result said President Duterte got the highest approval of 82% compared to other top officials in the country.

I know a lot of people will say, "Oh, he's only joking!"

"Is there a law, which says you can not do it?" Why does he even think it's amusing to say rape jokes and later apologize?

Duterte slammed local and global human rights groups for criticizing his administration and seemingly supporting criminals and drug personalities. Just don't say it in the first place.

"That's b***s*** to me. Nobody can really stop me", he added.

During the campaign period previous year, Duterte vowed to rid the Philippines of illegal drugs in three to six months.

The president reiterated that there are 4mn drug addicts in the country.

Duterte issued the statement anew following the resurgence of the illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) despite the presence of troopers, Special Action Force troopers and the resignation of Bureau of Corrections chief Benjamin de los Santos due to the issue.

Duterte became president in late June 2016. The Chief Executive admitted that it would be hard to get rid of the drug problem in the national penitentiary no matter who heads the BuCor.

Addressing the latest controversy Monday, Abella apparently told reporters: "There are those who tend to zero in on certain details, but as far as the public is concerned, and they are the ones who really approve of him, they find the president is somebody who understands them, who has their common interests, their common good, at heart".

He also said that the resurgence has definitely presented quite a challenge for Duterte.
