Disturbance in the southern Atlantic may become a tropical storm

Showers and thunderstorms are developing near the center of this system and it looks like further development is possible.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Invest 95L has a 30% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone by Friday. "Environmental conditions are conducive for some additional development before the system reaches the Lesser Antilles late Tuesday or early Wednesday".

On Monday afternoon an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance plane is set to investigate the disturbance, if needed.

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami said this morning that it has a 50 percent chance of developing in the next two days.

A second cluster of storms several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is less likely to develop over the next few days, but is The First Alert Weather Team continues to monitor its progress.

Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific there is a full-fledged hurricane. Fernanda was moving toward the west near 12 miles per hour (19 kph) and this motion is expected to continue over the next couple of days.

The storm was heading in the general direction of Hawaii, but forecasters said it is expected to lose strength in the coming days.
