Container falls on Commercial Bus in Lagos | 5 Deaths Recorded

A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), his wife, their two children and a church worker, were crushed to death by two containers yesterday in Lagos while on their way home from the monthly Holy Ghost vigil of the church.

The truck and commercial bus reportedly travelling from Ketu were en route Maryland when suddenly one of the containers on the truck fell off on the bus.

Response Unit, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in a rescue operation to save trapped victims of yesterday morning accident, at Ojota, Lagos.

Tiamiyu said: "The incident happened at about 4.45am".

Three trapped survivors have been rescued and taken to the Lagos State General Hospital, Ikeja, while the bodies of those that died in the accident have been deposited at the mortuary.

"We got the the information about eight minutes later and we immediately moved down".

"Fortunately, we were able to bring them out alive, while the other five who were already dead, have been evacuated as well".

The MACK truck conveying two containers with the registration number AKD 663 XF and the 18-seater passenger bus with the registration number FST 944 XR have been taken to LASEMA yard, Oshodi. Unfortunately, five others, a boy of about 10 years, a woman and three men were brought out dead after using crane to lift the containers.

Jamiu, however, blamed the accident to over-loading and bad conditions of the truck, stressing that the two 20ft containers were too heavy for the old truck to carry.
