The 25-year-old is viewed as a potential replacement for Andres Iniesta, 33, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Nou Camp, but the move comes at a time when Paris Saint-Germain are trying to sign Neymar, the Barcelona forward, in what would be a record deal.

The Catalans are reported to have made a £72million bid for the Brazilian on Thursday night, which was instantly rejected by the Reds.

When pressed if Coutinho was definitively not for sale, Klopp added: "Yes, that's what you can say, but that's not since this morning or yesterday, I'm not sure it was different at any time".

"There were a few games when he was out and when he came back and he was not in the best shape and he tried to get back his rhythm".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a hands of warning to any club hoping to land Phillipe Coutinho.

In both cases, RB Leipzig and Liverpool are attempting to hold onto their star players in the face of mega offers from bigger clubs.

"That's the best news actually and then we'll see who can bring into the squad", the former Borussia Dortmund coach added. "He has improved a lot since I've been here and he can still improve a lot". We are not a selling club.

However, Barcelona's interest has been rather lukewarm and the question we've been putting to you for the past year is: 'Are they really prepared to break the bank to land him?'.

"We believe in working together, we believe in development together, we believe in using the basis that we want to work together, we want to make the next step together and for this we need to stay together". "It's really positive. This is a fantastic club and it's a good moment for Liverpool".
