Police are searching for clues in the death of an 11-year-old New Jersey girl whose body was found near her home a day after she was reported missing, reports CBS New York. Abbiegail was last seen around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the apartment she shared with her mother on Hancock Street.

Police posted a flyer with information about the girl Thursday morning, a few hours before her body was found.

The young girl's body was found around 10:45 a.m. Thursday, shortly after the Monmouth County prosecutor launched a social media campaign asking for the public's help finding the missing girl. Smith's death is being treated as a homicide.

"We were really hopeful that we would find her", Gramiccioni said. We have two great law enforcement agencies behind this", Keansburg Mayor George Hoff told New Jersey 101.5 Thursday. At 8:50 p.m., she was reported missing by her mom.

"She'd get exhausted and bored and run up and down the entire stairs", neighbor Glen Argujil said.

Investigators used bloodhounds Thursday to search around the complex and the nearby Henry Hudson Trail.

"Nobody should sit still until we figure out who did this to this 11-year-old", Gramiccioni said.

Circumstances leading up to the Keansburg girl's death has not been determined, but police officials believe her death was intentional; therefore, it is being investigated as a homicide. Abbiegail lived at the complex with her family.

"In fear, we don't know who did this and I hope to God that they catch the person who did it", said resident Sabrina Bellotti.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni called Smith's death an "isolated crime" and urged area parents not to fear for their childrens' safety.

"We have no reason to believe you or your families have any reason to be concerned about your children, your well-being", the prosecutor said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday to determine Abbiegail's cause and manner of death, the prosecutor's office said.
