Apple released a sample of the new set of emoji it will release later this year.

If you are writing a message today (17 July) that contains emojis, congratulations, you are celebrating World Emoji Day.

Apple made the announcement as part of World Emoji Day.

Apple says that the emoji will be coming to iOS, macOS and watchOS later in the year.

Also in celebration of World Emoji Day, the App Store will be highlighting apps to create or do fun things with emoji, and iTunes Movies is featuring emoji in place of select movie titles.

Otherwise, it's a matter of Apple continuing its diversity push with the inclusion of an emoji of a mother breastfeeding, a woman wearing a headscarf and ... a man with a beard. Keep in mind the Unicode Consortium recently released version 10.0.0 of the Unicode Standard, with 56 new emoji characters for manufacturers to consider. The Exploding Head smiley is an instant favorite. The July 17 date was picked because that's the date used in most iterations of the calendar emoji.
