Women's Participation to Hit Record 48.8% in Tokyo Olympics (News)

When 3-on-3 basketball was officially added to the lineup for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, visions of LeBron James-Russell Westbrook-Kevin Durant triple-alley-oops danced through our heads.

The popular Madison event was removed from the Olympic program following the 2008 Games, and many have been pining for its return after it was not part of a revamped track Olympic program that was realigned to five medal events (team pursuit, omnium, sprint, keirin, and team sprint).

Its return gives an additional event for the endurance athletes without changing the athletes' quota, which limits that he number athletes per sport in the Olympic Games.

Wrestling will lose 56 places, sailing and shooting will each lose 30 and swimming will have 22 fewer.

IOC president Thomas Bach said: "The fascinating new events that we approved today, together with the five new sports that were added to the Tokyo 2020 programme previous year, represent a step-change in the Olympic programme.
