Wainwright homers, leads Cardinals over Dodgers 2-0

The Cardinals host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday for the finale of their four-game set after posting a 2-1 victory that represents only their fourth win in 12 games against the Dodgers, San Francisco and Colorado. He fired six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six in a 101-pitch outing.

The Dodgers had opportunities to even the score against Wainwright but went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position during his six innings. With two outs in the bottom of the second inning and Paul DeJong at second, Brandon McCarthy hung a curve over the plate's heart. It was Wainwright's 10th career home run, third among active pitchers behind Madison Bumgarner and Yovani Gallardo. Wainwright now has six hits and seven RBI this season. Oh worked around a one-out hit for his 13th save.

The Cardinals improved to 26-25 ahead of a seven-game Central Division road trip to the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati.

Before today's game, the Dodgers placed Adam Liberatore on the disabled list and recalled Grant Dayton.

Adrian Gonzalez led off the ninth and was called out by home plate umpire Marty Foster on a strike three clearly outside. McCarthy has posted a 4.15 ERA in three career no-decisions against St. Louis and has shut down Jhonny Peralta (1-for-21) and Jedd Gyorko (0-for-15).
