Trump to Pelosi: I Like You Right Where You Are

In a press conference, Pelosi said she felt "very confident" in her support in the Democratic caucus, despite some assessments that Democrats have lost a number of special elections in red districts this year because of Republicans' successful ability to demonize Pelosi and link Democratic congressional hopefuls to the minority leader. Ryan said they did not emerge with "any action items". I have enormous respect for her.

Hayes said the club - which now has 39 members - first will focus on electing Republicans to statewide office in 2018.

In December, Pelosi stated that she doesn't think Democratic voters actually want a new direction, but now even Democratic lawmakers are starting to disagree with her.

Pelosi under fire: Coming up short in Georgia served as the occasion for another round of grumbling about House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, whose skills as a fundraiser and a floor general are unquestioned, but who generally seems to be a sub-optimal public spokesperson for a party looking to pick itself up off the ground. In the wake of the most expensive Congressional race in history leading to a four-point loss in a district trending blue, some Democrats in the House began openly calling for Pelosi to stand down. Over the past several election cycles, GOP operatives have used Pelosi as a foil, and as a proxy for a liberal agenda.

'We know know exactly how to run against a Nancy Pelosi-led party, ' he continued. She is a great leader.

Just hours before the news conference, moderate Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice of NY reiterated her call that it was time for Pelosi to step aside.

"We can't keep losing races and keep the same leadership in place".

"Right now, what I'm pushing for is a conversation within the caucus", Rice said. "It is not fun being in Washington when you're in the minority". The rural areas that they snatched from the GOP were retaken and this territory is now firmly Trump country. Instead, the victory gave the majority party a sigh of relief, for now - and emboldened the president.

President Donald Trump weighed in on the internal Democratic power struggle on Thursday, tweeting, "I certainly hope the Democrats do not force Nancy P out. That would be very bad for the Republican Party - and please let Cryin' Chuck stay!" She said, "They say they want young people to get involved". Usually, these kinds of intra-party leadership challenges don't end well for the challenger: when a couple of conservative Republicans sought to run against Speaker John Boehner in January 2015, they only received 25 votes between them.

Several Democratic lawmakers have said Pelosi's position as a prominent face of the Democratic Party will continue to make winning elections hard.

"There's a reason why the Republicans are still using it".

The results of recent congressional elections suggest that Democrats could "take 50 seats" in the House of Representatives in 2018, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez said on ABC's The View Thursday. The subtext wasn't a subtext at all because Pelosi wanted to send a direct message to her detractors: any junior member of the House Democratic Caucus who wants to go on TV and keep arguing for her removal as leader is welcome to do so.

It's true Trump isn't wildly popular here, and Handel and her campaign underwhelmed some Republicans.

That reality was the subtext for Pelosi's taunting remarks Thursday in which she cast her Democratic critics as hungry for attention rather than serious about ousting her.

"When it comes to the issues, we are united in terms of our concern for America's working families".

Asked by Lemon if he thought Pelosi was more toxic than Trump, Ryan said yes.
