This data can be viewed on a map on real time basis, allowing users to compare call quality of their service provider using crowdsourced data from nearby users.

Asked about the action being proposed by the regulator based on the data gathered from the app, Sharma said the application would bring transparency on service quality of different operators in various locations. The application will help mobile phone users rate their experience about voice call quality in real time and assist the Trai in gathering customer experience data along with Network data.

Once the app is installed, the call log will automatically show in MyCall's history page and users can rate every call on the scale of one to five.

The third app was TRAI DND that aims at protecting mobile phone users from unsolicited calls and SMS.

The caller has the chance to made complaint on additional details like noise, audio delay and marks a call drop, if they believe that is how the call got terminated. TRAI says that the data collected from users will be anonymous and not linked to users.

He said previous year TRAI had permitted the increase of validity for mobile data packs to 365 days from the current validity of up to 90 days to boost usage by marginal consumers and also attract first-time Internet users and minimize security concerns that arises due to repeated checks in case of very low duration packs.

The regulator has launched a new version of TRAI MySpeed App that will enable the regulator to obtain test-driven data from users in all service areas, without any action by the users.

The MySpeed app, which has more than 1.5 million downloads and helps users measure 3G and 4G speeds, will come with automated testing of data speeds free of charge and anonymously. The app will identify senders and warns them against sending further messages.

TRAI will soon issue advisory to the mobile operators to at least launch one exclusive data Special Tariff Voucher (STVs) of 365-days duration.

The new and improved Trai website now gives away free online subscriptions, online submission of responses to consultation papers, as well as online registration of open house discussions.
