Things You Don't Know About Brooks Koepka

Open champion, and he gave it the cliched low-grade golf fist pump. Heused the pivotal stretch to pull away and finish the championships at 16-under 272. This U.S. Open wasn't lost, it was won by a 27-year-old Florida native who had only won one other PGA tournament.

"After that, it was kind of lights out", Harman said.

"I don't want to say homesick, I was just exhausted of golf and exhausted of travelling", said Koepka, who won four times on the European Challenge Tour between September 2012 and June 2013.

But even though he rattled in five birdies on the back nine, Koepka was always able to keep the Japanese at arms length as he waited in the clubhouse.

A beautifully controlled chip allowed him to tap in for birdie on 14, and after giving one back on 15, he leaned on the short stick to get within striking distance of second place on the 16th. Matsuyama and Harman finished at 12 under, which would have been good enough to win 115 of the United States Opens that have been contested but not the 117th.

While wins by Walker and Willett might come as a surprise, especially Willett since he has not been the same player since last years victory at Augusta, Koepka's win should not shock you. I've done it before, but he did it today. At the same time, I don't feel as if I lost the golf tournament. For the week he was tied for fourth in fairways in regulation hitting 49/56.

Nonetheless, the birdie that started the string of three straight did wonders for Koepka's confidence.

"I'd won once on the PGA Tour, once on the European Tour", Koepka said.

Three weeks later he took the Scottish Hydro Challenge, and gained automatic membership onto the main European Tour.

Adam Hadwin opened the U.S. Open with a round to remember, but closed with a day to forget Sunday, at Wisconsin's Erin Hills golf course.

Brooks Koepka produced a back-nine birdie blitz to win the US Open golf tournament, becoming the seventh consecutive first-time victor of a Major with a record-equalling victory at the Erin Hills course here by four strokes, Sunday.

"That's probably one of the coolest things I've ever experienced and to do it on Father's Day was pretty neat".

Low amateur Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Champ of Texas A&M were also impressive. As Harman tied for 2nd place with Hideki Matsuyama.

It was an incredible day of Golf yesterday at Erin Hills, Wisconsin. And Phil Mickelson withdrew to attend his daughter's graduation.

With strong winds buffeting the 7,721-yard layout at Erin Hills earlier in the day, Mother Nature had appeared poised to bite back after three days of benign conditions which led to a feast of low-scoring. I don't think anyone out here is.

"I don't want to say homesick".

His confidence in the final round came, in part, from a short conversation the night before with Dustin Johnson, a friend who had been through his share of close calls and heartbreaks before finally becoming a major champion at the U.S. Open a year ago.
