Tebow promoted to Mets' affiliate in Florida

The New York Mets boosted the former football star from low-A ball with the Columbia Fireflies to St. Lucie of the Class A-Advanced League.

It is unlikely that Tebow's move is due to his stunning play: the 29-year-old rookie batted.222 with three home runs and 23 RBIs for the Fireflies, stats that the Mets general manager, Sandy Alderson, admitted are underwhelming. Attendance totals aside, the former Heisman Trophy victor has posted the best offensive numbers, sporting a.220/.336/.648 slash line with three home runs (HRs), 23 runs batted in (RBIs), 69 strikeouts, 23 walks, and seven errors as the left fielder through 63 games with Columbia.

The two-time national champion with the Florida Gators and NFL quarterback signed with the Mets last September.

"I obviously love Florida, so this is nice", Tebow said.

I can't quite bring myself to call Tebow the Danica of Baseball.

"I saw it on twitter being announced so I immediately hoped on the internet and bought tickets for Tuesday and we are just really excited", said Lauren. The left-handed batter has driven in 22 runs and hit three homers.

Tebow likely will never receive another promotion beyond this level.

In a press conference on the eve of his final game with the fireflies, Tebow was quick to shrug off public speculation regarding his performance.

Baseball America estimated Tebow would have generated $3.1 million in additional revenue over 70 road games this year.

"I think we're pleased with the first half of the season", Alderson said. However, what would be nice is if the Mets just admitted they're using Tebow as a business asset and not a baseball player.

That's Alderson's wish, too, as Tebow continues a journey that he hopes ends at Citi Field in NY.

And it's not like Tebow will be stealing at-bats from a top prospect.

Tebow was traded to the New York Jets prior to the 2012 season. "[In Spring Training] he told me, he goes, 'I'm doing this because I have the ability to and I want to be an example for people'". And in case you haven't been paying attention, he's proven himself to be a awful professional baseball player.
