Record turnout at Congressional charity baseball game

Donald Trump said Steve Scalise, the majority whip who was shot when a gunman opened fire during a congressional Republican baseball practice, is in a "more difficult" condition than was initially realized.

Scalise was fielding balls at second base when he was hit in the hip, and sustained grievous injuries as the bullet traveled through his pelvis and injured internal organs.

To put the "20,000" figure into context, that number is higher than the average ticket sales of a Tampa Bay Rays or Oakland Athletics home game, and is about the same as a Miami Marlins game. "America salutes both of their courage", Trump said.

Republican fans sat in the right field, Democrats sat in the left field.

He was one of five people wounded Wednesday in an attack on a Republican team practice in Virginia.

"There's been quite a bit of attacking against the president", Mrs. Sanders said.

The congressional baseball game was first played in 1909 - organized by John Tener, a Republican Congressman from Pennsylvania who had also played professional baseball - but it did not become an annual affair until 1962, having been interrupted during the Great Depression and World War II.

From the stands, Vince Wetzel, a resident of Sacramento, California, who is visiting Washington and chose to take in the game, said, "It's just a good call to put aside political differences and just play some baseball".

Speaking today from the White House, President Trump said Scalise's condition- initially announced as "stable" - was "much more hard that people even thought at the time".

Rep. Jeff Duncan of SC said he had just left the practice and encountered the apparent gunman in the parking lot before the shooting.

Donnelly is scheduled to play first base for the Democrat side. They discovered a cell phone, computer and camera inside of it. Police say Hodgkinson legally bought the guns he used in the shooting.
