And Zidane, speaking to Ronaldo, now with Portugal for the Confederations Cup, reportedly said: "We are a team that wins because of you".

The 32-year-old apparently told Portuguese and Spanish media, via his representatives, that he is keen on leaving the Santiago Bernabeu club.

"As no other candidature was put forward to the board ... it is proclaimed that Mr Florentino Pérez Rodríguez is president of Real Madrid", the club said in a statement.

The Portuguese has won everything there is in Spain, including the Champions League in three of the last four seasons.

"I'm sure he will speak to us about what has happened (with the tax case), which has obviously affected his credibility, and we'll see what happens".

He would cost a lot more than the £80 million Manchester United got for him in 2009, but the team has the financial muscles to pull it off.

In quotes carried on Marca's website, Perez said: "I have not spoken to him". The only thing I know is that he's angry about the treatment the media have given him.

IBTimes UK earlier revealed that Ronaldo wants to leave Real and he has already informed the club of his decision. Since losing Ibrahimovic, they no longer have that spark but they believe Ronaldo could be that special player who inspires them to a first European crown.

The Mirror claim that United are ready to go all-out to sign Ronaldo this summer and are set to test Madrid's resolve with a staggering deal worth £175m PLUS David De Gea.

The Real Madrid president also appeared to dash Manchester United hopes of signing Alvaro Morata, a transfer that looked close to completion last week.

Since extending his contract in November until 2021, Ronaldo is according to Forbes the highest paid sports star in the world with $93 million (83m euro) in 2016-2017.

Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also reported to be interested.

Ronaldo, who left Old Trafford for Real Madrid eight years ago, caused a stir last week when he asked to leave the club after a record-extending 12th European cup.
