Veteran Juve keeper Gianluigi Buffon's hopes of becoming the oldest player to win the trophy were crushed by a ruthless Madrid side and his chances of adding a Champions League winners' medal to his collection of silverware now look slim.

Asked how long the spell can last, Modric responded: "It's hard to say this but, like I said, we need to keep doing what we are doing, enjoy what we are doing and we will see".

Although the first-half appeared the two teams were equally matched, the second half proved a different story as Juventus had no answer for a dominating Madrid squad.

But goals from Casemiro, Ronaldo's second and substitute Marco Asensio rewarded an outstanding second-half effort from Madrid.

Luka Modric believes that Real Madrid's era of Champions League success can go on for several more years - and thereby replicate the kind of dominance in the competition they achieved in the 1950s - as he also put the second-half turnaround in their 4-1 final win over Juventus down to Zinedine Zidane's half-time speech.

Modric, who was again masterful especially in setting up Cristiano Ronaldo's clinching third goal, believes it can continue.

"If he (Zidane) can see something that we can do on the pitch, he tells us, and we are trying to do it in our best way", Modric said.

"I can not explain why we played like we did in the second half. It was crucial for our performance in the second half".

"I can't say whether I'll stay for the rest of my life but I'm so grateful for the club for everything it has given me", he said.

"It's been a tough year with a lot of football and the injuries, but the main thing for me is to get my ankle sorted and it give it that rest it needs".

But Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri said it was not the end of the road for his side.

"It has been an incredible end to the season by us. But we can improve the team".
