Prime time: Metroid Prime 4 is in development for Switch

The series protagonist, Samus Aran, has become one of Nintendo's most prominent icons and is famous for her unique Power Suit. However, they did note it was in active development for Nintendo Switch. It launches on September 15, so we haven't got too long to wait.

First announced during today's Nintendo Spotlight Event, the upcoming title is now in development for Nintendo Switch.

We don't yet know who's working on Metroid Prime 4, although Nintendo also announced that a new sidescolling Metroid game called Samus Returns will be coming to the 3DS.

The Game Freak-developed Pokemon RPG "may not release for more than a year, but we hope you look forward to it all the same", Pokemon Company's Tsuenkazu Ishihara said on the stream.

Samus Returns was just revealed for Nintendo 3DS and is a brand new side-scrolling 2D adventure.

With the Nintendo E3 Direct conference taking place at 5pm United Kingdom time, fans are about to find out which games are coming to Nintendo Switch in 2017 and beyond.

The gameplay footage above goes over quite a bit of detail from the game and includes commentary from co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto about the challenges the team faced while in development. The game is a remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus, and you can find that trailer below as well.

Nintendo is now having an awesome showing at E3 2017 so far, and they continue to impress.
