But in the long term could we see the eventual extinction of dedicated voice assistant device, even as the likes of Alexa and Google Assistant become ever-more common features in the modern smart home?

Intelligent home-speaker shipments reached 5.9 million units globally in 2016 and are expected to grow tenfold by 2022, according to Britain-based research firm Strategy Analytics.

If Huawei does release a voice-integrated WiFi router, it would be unlikely to compete globally against Amazon Echo and Google Home because it will initially be for a Chinese audience. Each connects to various smart home devices, though, predictably, your smart thermostat, garage door opener and lights are generally compatible with one, not all.

The fact that people are willing to make price the number one factor for smart speaker purchases could spell bad news for Apple's HomePod, which will be retail later this year for $349.

These are three different queries that rely on each other. However, that could change by the time HomePod ships as it will use the newly refined version of Siri shipping with iOS 11. The Echo can play music from popular music services like Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn and iHeart Radio.

Not only will it help to drive hardware sales, but the HomePod will also help to drive Apple's service business that includes Apple Music. The Echo Dot also attaches to existing speaker systems over Bluetooth or with an audio cable.

Right now, it seems both Home and HomePod are about tied in the tests front.

The list of tasks you can do with just voice is growing across all of these devices. It's now the leader in this area with more than 10,000 third-party voice apps called "skills". In fact, Apple has to provide a more seamless experience with the HomePod. Both can support third party smart home devices from Philips Hue, Nest, Samsung SmartThings and Wemo. But when it comes to the smart speaker, consumers are more likely to choose convenience over the possible privacy invasion.

It's really too early to call which is better considering HomePod doesn't ship until November.

Apple believes the HomePod will revolutionize the listening experience for customers, as it has an array of speakers (seven tweeter speakers and woofer setup) that creates a virtual surround sound.

If you're tied to Google's Android ecosystem, then the Home is probably a better choice-not to mention it's already out. On the other hand, Google Home usually sells for $129 and is now retailing for $109.

Personally, I'd get Amazon Echo over both of them.
