LaVar Ball makes his first bold prediction for Lonzo's National Basketball Association career

At the introductory press conference for second-overall draft pick Lonzo Ball, Johnson placed high expectations for the UCLA point guard, even asking Ball to refrain from breaking at least a couple of the many records that Johnson owns from his Showtime playing days. We've got to get the right people in place to do that, but we're building every step. We want to thank him for what he did for us.

For the Lakers, the move was essentially a salary dump, as it allowed them to shed Mozgov's hefty salary - he's entering the second year of a 4-year, $64 million deal - and take on Lopez' expiring contract.

It's quite the promise, as the Lakers finished second-to-last in the West last season and a whole 15 games out of a playoff spot, but LaVar has come through with some big promises in the past, so I won't be the one to doubt him here.

Ball predicted Lakers forward Brandon Ingram, who just had an up and down rookie season, "going to be a superstar in this league". "The way Zo' plays the game is infectious". He also stated to Lonzo that he expects a Ball jersey to be hanging on their wall of legendary players.

"I'm just thankful for everybody that helped me get here", he said.

"There's clearly a gift, with what he's been blessed with".

"What a tremendous day it is for the Lakers Nation, the Lakers organization, for Rob and I as well as the Buss Family to welcome the new face of the Lakers", Johnson said. "Do you see that smile?" The Lakers remaining firm that they were holding their options open leading up to the draft on Thursday, but all that was quickly put aside once the selection was made and the pure excitement for what Ball could bring to the team was aired again on Friday. Ball will wear No. 2 on his jersey.

And while everyone from Johnson to Ball's father, LaVar, continues to talk of expectations for Lonzo, he himself is a man who'd rather speak through his on-court performance.
