Kushner lawyer pointed out potential conflict

President Donald Trump, whose combative instincts are to lash out and not retreat, has given his legal team a clear direction: fight, fight, fight.

If you're keeping score at home, candidate then President Trump was never the subject of a federal investigation over Russia's 2016 election meddling, a reality to which he was alerted three times by then-FBI Director James Comey prior to his May firing. Thereupon, we were treated to heated debates - including an uncharacteristically cringe-inducing one Fox's Chris Wallace conducted with Sekulow - over whether Trump was acknowledging that he is under investigation ... or been told he was under investigation ... or ... something.

Sekulow says that Trump hasn't been notified of any investigation. As Comey might say, no reasonable prosecutor would fail to investigate in these circumstances. That's it. That's all that Jay Sekulow knows. I had understood the President to be requesting that we drop any investigation of Flynn in connection with false statements about his conversations with the Russian ambassador in December.

Sekulow says the president has a social media platform that can reach 107 million people and "I don't tell him what to write or not write".

The Post reported that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was looking into whether the president obstructed justice.

Gorelick is a partner at the WilmerHale law firm. Using his pardon power in an effort to shut down the investigation, on the theory that Mueller would then have nothing left to probe? The department said last month that under professional responsibility rules, Mueller may participate in matters involving his former firm's clients as long as he wasn't involved in representing them and has no confidential information about them.

What has been reported about whether Trump is under investigation?

Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said failure to respond could result in subpoenas being issued. He takes the action that they also by the way, recommended, and now he's being investigated by the Department of Justice.

Rubio spoke on NBC, CNN and CBS.

DICKERSON: Is it your view, and just to educate viewers, that - that if you were under investigation, there would be an obligation for the special counsel to let you know?

In a statement, Ms Gorelick said that after the appointment of the special counsel, she advised Mr Kushner "to obtain the independent advice of a lawyer with appropriate experience as to whether he should continue with us". Trump insists his campaign had nothing to do with Russian efforts to undermine credibility in the US election.

THE FACTS: The president once again shows a lack of understanding of how law-enforcement investigations work, or a willingness to misrepresent the process.

The president has denied any illegal dealings with Russian Federation during the election or that he tried to block the investigation.

When he held the position of Federal Bureau of Investigation director, Comey was obliged to report to his immediate superior, the attorney general, Sessions, who in turn was obliged to report to the president. But ThePost reported that Coats had told associates Trump had asked him to intervene with Comey when he was still FBI Director, to take the heat off former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and that Trump had asked Coats and Rogers to publicly deny any evidence of collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation during the 2016 election.
