Jay Sekulow: This Is A Manufactured Investigation

"The president is not and has not been under investigation", Sekulow told CBS's "Face the Nation".

On both occasions, Sekulow denied that Trump's tweet from last week - "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" - was a confirmation that he is under investigation. Speaking to a perplexed Jake Tapper on CNN, Sekulow said the president was responding to a Washington Post story and was not being investigated.

"The fact of the matter is, the president has not been and is not under investigation".

In a manner that would probably please his boss, Sekulow twice made mention of television ratings when comparing the reach of a cable network with President Trump's reach on social media.

Sekulow noted that the Washington Post doesn't even identify the agencies for which the five anonymous sources work.

When Wallace pointed out that Sekulow had just contradicted himself by acknowledging Trump was under investigation, the president's attorney accused the host of "putting words in my mouth, when I've been crystal clear that the president is not and has not been undeyinvestigation".

"Sekulow went out yesterday for a significant reason", America's Newsroom anchor Bill Hemmer said on Fox News Monday morning, before asking former Gov. John Sununu to appraise Sekulow's performance. "There has been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation".

Trump's lawyer, Jay Sekulow invoked Trump's Article 1 powers under the Constitution to justify the President's firing of James Comey, which suggests that Trump believes that he could use the same path to fire special counsel Robert Mueller. Even the Federal Bureau of Investigation director told Congress that he serves at the pleasure of the president.

Sekulow again said Trump is not under investigation, to which Cuomo responded "you don't know whether or not that's true". He didn't specify the venue. If this legal team's strategy is to bore us to death, they may just succeed.

"If I hired you I'd want you to make that phone call", he added. There was a lot of issues this past week.
