Hike also claimed that they're the largest UPI-based platform in India now.

Hike's wallet, however, is the first such service by a messaging platform in the country and comes ahead of a possible launch of a payment facility by Facebook-owned WhatsApp later this year. Users can send these to friends or family on special occasions and add personalised messages. "It works on a first come first serve basis and a Blue Packet when sent expires in 24 hours". However, users will now be able to only conduct peer-to-peer money transfers and make mobile bill payments. While WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton spoke publicly about plans to launch digital payments, Hike's CEO, Kavin Mittal Bharti, has never made the company's intentions public before surprising the industry with the announcement.

If you're staying up late and chatting in the darkness of your bedroom, not to worry, Hike's dedicated a theme just for that called "Night" theme.

With the launch of Hike 5.0, Hike has also reduced the app size to just 25MB despite adding all these features and has also added 128-bit SSL encryption that ensures that communication across the air and wire networks, is completely encrypted. Hike has partnered with Yes Bank to carry out the payment services.

A "Blue Packet" can be sent to an individual or even a group of friends and users can select how many people in the group should get it. The timeline section has all the stories posted by the people on your contacts list, whereas the Chat section has all the chats.

Hike claims with more than 100 million registered users now on Hike Messenger, the launch make it the largest UPI-based platform in India.

E-payments have surged in India since a shock ban of high-value bank notes in November previous year.

Mittal, son of the billionaire chairman of Bharti Airtel Ltd., launched Hike in 2012.

He added that the rollout to Android and iOS (Apple) users will be completed by June 25, while the wallet feature will be made available to Apple phone users by end of July.

Last but not the least, version 5 of Hike is reintroducing the app's social network-like features, which took a hike a year ago, when Snapchat-esque Stories (48 hours and not 24 hours) was launched. We have launched news and live sports in the past.
