"We are so pleased to welcome Amazon to Apple TV", Cook said at the start of his keynote address opening Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which moved this year to the San Jose Convention Center.

It's official: Amazon Prime Video is coming to Apple TV.

One of the most anticipated reveals was the new Apple smart speaker called the "Home Pod".

Tim Cook announced at WWDC 2017 that Amazon Prime Video will come to tvOS and Apple TV later this summer. The negotiations ended up with Amazon's app finally being available on the Apple TV platform. "We listened", Amazon wrote on Twitter following the announcement.

The introductory news about Amazon was the only Apple TV-specific announcement made today, which was a disappointment as it was widely expected that Apple would introduce the next major version of tvOS alongside revisions to its other software platforms. The collaboration has always been delayed, but Amazon and Apple have now come to an agreement to allow compatibility.

Recode reported last month that the two sides were nearing a deal, and BuzzFeed News later reported that an agreement had been reached. Case in point? Since Apple and Amazon are big-time competitors, folks who owned Apple TV couldn't use it to stream Amazon Prime Video, including original shows like Catastrophe and Transparent.
