Hodgkinson's criminal history stretches back to 1988. He was arrested for domestic battery in 2006, but those charges were dropped.

A decade later, he was investigated in another gun-related crime. In March, a neighbor reported someone firing shots near houses.

This screen capture shows the Facebook page of James T. Hodgkinson displaying a portrait picture of Bernie Sanders on June 14, 2017. In 1994, JTH Construction became JTH Inspections, a home inspection and air quality testing service that he listed as closed in 2016.

"The intensity is very real, whether it's a so-called comedian holding up the president's head covered in blood, or right here in New York City, a play that shows the president being assassinated, or it's Democratic leading national politicians using vulgarity because they can't find any common language to talk", he said. Very nice, very understanding.

"He really was not interested in being involved in student government or anything that was close to what you would call political activism", Calhoun says. An aide to Rep. A search of online newspapers show that Hodgkinson frequently wrote letters to his local newspaper, the Belleville News-Democrat, which published almost two dozen letters between 2010 and 2012, many of which included complaints about the same theme: income inequality.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, who led a progressive, left-wing populist effort that very almost won him the Democratic presidential nomination, condemned the shooting Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice - and acknowledged the suspect was apparently a supporter of his campaign. Let me be as clear as I can be: Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.

According to one of his Facebook profiles - he appears to have at least two - the 66-year-old Hodgkinson is from Belleville, Illinois.

"If the rich paid their fair share of taxes today, we wouldn't be in this predicament".

"We need to vote all Republicans out of office", Hodgkinson wrote in a letter in 2011. He railed obsessively against the American tax rate and Republican tax policy on Facebook and in letters to the newspaper in his hometown, where he protested as a member of the "99 percent" movement.
