Spurs chances of EPL title 'nearly impossible,' says Dier

Manuel Lanzini's 65th minute strike left Spurs second-placed Spurs four points behind Chelsea with three matches to play - and the leaders have a game in hand.

Chelsea need six points from four games to guarantee top spot and they would reach that target with wins against Middlesbrough on Monday and West Bromwich Albion on Friday.

England worldwide Dier was understandably downbeat after the match, particularly as the defeat had come out of the blue, as Spurs went into the contest on the back of a nine-game winning run in the top-flight.

Spurs simply didn't show up at the London Stadium, as for the second season running Tottenham's EPL hopes went up in smoke against a London rival.

"And although they have blown the league title for the second consecutive year, this team is very close to winning something major". "We have to wait but are thinking that it will be hard to catch Chelsea", said Pochettino.

"To win a league or a trophy is a key moment".

"Today is that game that winning would mean a lot to the team and the club, so hopefully we can do that". Spurs didn't bottle it, it would be more appropriate to say they just ran out of steam. Crystal Palace, anyone? Then Chelsea face a trip to West Brom, who have not been tearing up any trees recently, but you never know.

"I think it wasn't our best day".

"I don't change my vision of my players". I'm very proud. It's hard to keep your level.

But Pochettino promises that while hope remains, Spurs will continue to fight.

"We feel guilty because I'm not pleased with the way we played this game", he said on Spurs TV. And yes a little bit unlucky. We have only three games to reduce the gap.

West Ham turned on the style to foil a Tottenham side usually so energetic and menacing to ease any lingering relegation fears.

"Slaven Bilic has my full backing". I thought we got what we deserved. It was great in terms of character and determination.

"Add to them if you must, but lose any of the current team and it will be a testimony to Tottenham's lack of ambition".
