Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell died after hanging himself, a USA coroner said on today. Woody said the friend forced open a hotel room door and found Cornell on the bathroom floor.

Cornell's wife had asked a family friend him to check on the singer, sources tell WDIV.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office will make an official determination about the cause of death.

"A full autopsy report has not yet been completed", adds a statement. "There's no doubt that Soundgarden's music is very dark and melancholy at times". The band released three albums in six years and also performed at a concert billed as Cuba's first outdoor rock concert by an American band, though some Cuban artists have disputed that claim.
